Matcha Green Tea White Chocolate Brownie Recipe

Brownies are always good but if you want to make brownies with a gourmet, decadent touch, consider this recipe. We are using white chocolate, matcha green tea powder, almond and vanilla to give these brownies a fantastic taste. Try one (or two!) of these with a cup of tea or coffee, or serve one with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for dessert.

They are special enough for a dinner party, and you can make them ahead and serve them at room temperature, so if you are going to be focused on last minute touches to the main course, a make-ahead dessert is a real lifesaver because you can make it and forget about it until your dinner guests are ready for something sweet.

White chocolate is delicate with the matcha green tea flavour but if you prefer milk chocolate, or even dark, go ahead and use that. The matcha tea powder offers a subtle flavour but you will still be able to taste it despite the other flavours used.

Ingredients

  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, plus more for greasing
  • 170g white chocolate
  • 25g matcha green tea powder
  • 50g brown sugar
  • 2 lightly beaten large eggs
  • 140g plain flour, plus more for sprinkling
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 80g white chocolate chips
  • 50g toasted slivered almonds

How to Make Them

  1. The first thing to do is preheat the oven to 180 degrees C. Grease a 20cm x 20cm baking tin and sprinkle in a little flour.
  2. Put the butter and white chocolate in a bowl and microwave until melted, stirring every 20 seconds or so.
  3. Let this mixture cool for 10 minutes, then you can stir in the matcha powder, sugar and eggs.
  4. Once everything is combined, add the flour, almond extract and vanilla extract.
  5. Now you can stir in the white chocolate chips and almonds.
  6. Transfer the batter into the prepared tin and use a spatula to level the top.
  7. Bake the brownies for 20 minutes or until light brown on top. Let them cool on a wire rack before cutting into squares.
